Kelly Taphouse's Journey, The Inspiration Behind MOVE

Kelly Taphouse is one of the most passionate fitness professionals with over 15 years’ experience in the industry. Although she was not a natural athlete who played high school sports that did not stop Kelly from starting her fitness journey later in her twenties.  Her initial passion for fitness began as a means to help cope with anxiety.

Kelly’s hard work and love for fitness quickly grew and she became a top competitive fitness model achieving success across North America.  She was featured regularly in the popular fitness magazines, obtained sponsorship from a top nutrition supplement company and promoted fitness for leading companies at the largest conventions however, at the same time she began to develop unhealthy habits that included overtraining, excessive cardio and strict dieting.  She also began to struggle with body image disorder as her unsustainable levels of exercise and caloric restriction caused her weight to fluctuate greatly, sometimes upwards of 20lbs after a competition.  This struggle led Kelly to better educate herself about how she was compromising her health on the inside. She soon quit competitions and started her career at Goodlife Fitness as a Personal Trainer, PT Club Manager and PT Area Manager.

Like so many other women, Kelly struggled to get back in shape after the birth of her son, having gained 70lbs, and found she had lost her motivation to be fit and healthy. It was at this time she decided to stop dieting and accept and understand her new body once and for all. She slowly began to eat better with balance, train based upon better movement and getting stronger, and truly fell in love with healthy fitness. By focusing on feeling good, instead of losing weight, she became happier in her own skin.  This new approach to fitness combined with the challenge she faced in finding a fitness center in the area that truly provided an experience catering towards women and convenience for moms, inspired the creation of MOVE fitness club.

Kelly has helped hundreds of people find and follow their own fitness journey. Her undeniable infectious energy and passion for fitness can only be rivalled by her love for her son Parker.  It is her mission to help women love their bodies by challenging them to become stronger and healthier for the all the right reasons.

MOVE well, get strong, and be your best. Looking good is just a side effect!

She first discovered her passion for health and fitness after a major turning point in her life when she was diagnosed with cancer as a young adult. Prior to that she had struggled with losing weight, trying diet after diet, but it wasn't until her outlook on health changed that she saw so many positive changes in her life. Ever since she was little, Alex knew her future would lie in helping people, fighting for a bigger purpose, and never taking herself too seriously! Alex is a firm believer in doing what you love and that everyone has unlimited potential- they just need the right environment. With a bachelors in Kinesiology and Health Psychology from the University of Toronto, Alex is dedicated to not only ensuring that your form is immaculate, but to helping you become the strongest version of yourself, both physically and mentally. Why We Love Her:

Clancy credits her lifetime involvement in sport and fitness to her parents. Growing up on the sidelines Clancy quickly learned effective teamwork and that hard work pays off. She wanted, and did, try every sport; basketball, volleyball, ringette, swimming, badminton, ultimate frisbee and CrossFit (just to name a few) and took these sports to competitive, collegiate, and national levels in her teens and early 20s.

Sport and physical activity had such a positive place in her life she chose to study and complete her Bachelor of Science Kinesiology from Dalhousie University. At Dalhousie she begun working as a Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor. This “side gig” continued into her Master’s of Applied Science Occupational Therapy at McGill University.

Health, fitness and sport continue to play a major role in her life as she works full time as an Occupational Therapist at Toronto General Hospital. Balancing her career and passion for helping people improve their overall wellbeing through movement has brought her to no other place but MOVE! Her educational background provides a sound foundation for efficient movement while helping you reach your goals safely. Fitness has become a lifestyle for Clancy and she is well versed in teaching various strength and conditioning modalities. She can’t wait to help you reach your full potential!

In her spare time you can usually find her slinging a heavy barbell overhead, out playing with her dog Pax or just MOVEing 💪🏼

Why we love her:

Ever since I was a young kid playing sports was my jam. Days spent on the field, winters on the slopes lead to one too many concussions, and eventually had to stop doing the things I loved. I found my passion for health and fitness again when i stumbled upon CrossFit. Learning how to lift weights, do gymnastics and mentally challenge myself in the gym presented new and exciting opportunities for me to grow professionally and personally. From GoodLife to CrossFit - I have now re-focused my sights on training athletes of all ages in to how to perform optimally in their field of sport. I truly believe that there is a direct correlation of hard work put in the gym to excelling at life! Prioritizing nutrition, training, recovery and strong social relationships, it is my mission to empower every individual to become the best possible version of themselves in the gym and in their sport - whether that’s on the field or in life. And have a lot of fun doing it!!!

Karrie Briscoe |  Yoga instructor

Why we love her:

Karrie recently relocated to Toronto from London, England with her family, excited for what Canada has to offer. Ever learning and growing but staying close to the things that make her most happy in life - yoga, nutrition, nature and now motherhood.

Karrie came to yoga quite unconventionally. Jessica Skye – a successful DJ and yoga teacher – gave her free lessons in exchange for booking a music gig and was instantly hooked. It was from here that yoga became a way of life and not just another class to attend. She quit her day job and jetted off to Costa Rica to do her yoga teacher training and the rest is history. Teaching is a way for Karrie to share her knowledge, experience and positivity with the aim of improving people’s quality of life. Her mantra: ‘you are what you give away.' Whether you're just starting out, looking to improve your alignment or wanting a more powerful core workout, you will always leave her classes feeling stronger and more balanced, both mentally and physically.
